Background
Ryan Sheahan was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado. He attended the University of Kansas, where he graduated with a B.S. in Journalism. While in college, Ryan was active in many campus organizations, and earned both the Outstanding Greek Senior Award and the Outstanding Interfraternity Council Leader Award. He is a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.
Ryan worked for several years prior to attending law school in both professional fundraising and sales. While working in fundraising, he directed several capital campaigns that raised millions of dollars for student housing at universities across the country. Although enjoying the work, Ryan’s desire to attend law school was always in the back of his mind, leading to his enrollment at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.
While in law school, Ryan participated in many organizations, including Moot Court and Inns of Court. He was a member of the 2007 National Championship team in the Niagara International Moot Court Competition, where he and his partner successfully argued the final three rounds on the last day of the tournament. He was also recognized in another competition for his brief writing skills. As a result of these successes, Ryan was inducted into the Order of Barristers upon graduation. He also earned two UDM books awards for the highest g.p.a. in Evidence in Criminal Trials and Remedies Seminar.
Professional Experience
Ryan’s practice areas include all aspects of common interest development law (condominium, planned development, etc.), construction defect, personal injury, and general civil litigation matters, including business disputes and collection work. He is a member of the State Bar of California and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court - Central District.
Recently Ryan completed Phase I of the Los Angeles County Trial Advocacy Project, where participants undergo training and participate in all aspects of trial work. In November 2010, Ryan will begin the second and final Phase of the Project, where he will be involved in an extensive six-week course further educating and training selected participants on matters in both civil and criminal trials.
Personal
In his spare time, Ryan enjoys outdoor activities, reading, and spending time with family and friends. He is happily married to his wife, Teresa, who is a pediatric resident in the Los Angeles metro area.
